KABUL (Pajhwok): The caretaker government has done a lot for promoting international trade and boosting regional economic cooperation, the acting foreign minister said on Tuesday.
Other countries in the region must also do so, provide facilities to Afghan traders and keep trade out of politics, Amir Khan Muttaqi stressed.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), tweeted that Muttaqi made the remarks at a banquet on day two of the Imam Abu Hanifa National and International Expo in Kabul.
The 2nd Imam Abu Hanifa National and International Expo and Trade Fair, in which 700 companies are taking part, got under way here on July 16.
Muttaqi said: “We have done a lot for providing visas, investment, trade, customs facilities for imports and exports and transit. “Our country is open to economic cooperation and investments.”
He added a favourable environment had been created for investment in Afghanistan, where comprehensive security and administrative facilities had been put in place.
“We are ready for full cooperation on the enhancement of trade and investment. Corruption has been eradicated and red tape reduced.”
Connecting Afghanistan with the region through trade was the cornerstone of IEA’s foreign policy, he remarked, saying the government wanted to increase the level of trade and transit, implement huge economic projects, attract investments, provide basic economic facilities and upgrade infrastructure, Muttaqi concluded.
