KABUL (Pajhwok): Security forces on Wednesday prevented dozens of women from protesting against the ban on beauty salons in Kabul city using tasers and shot their guns into the air.
The Vice and Virtue and Complaints Ministry on June 26 gave one month to all salons in Afghanistan to wind down their businesses.
Reacting to the ban, some women on Wednesday held a protest rally n Kabul city.
A source, who did not want to be identified, told Pajhwok Afghan News some women who wanted to protest gathered near Bakhtawar Tower of Shahr-i-Naw area.
They were surrounded by security personnel who fired into the air, sprayed the women with water and did not allow them to continue their protest.
Some video clips of the protest were also shared on social media.
More than 30 women could be seen taking part in the protest and then gunshots were heard and the women were sprayed with water.
In the video clips, the women could be seen chanting “adalat, adalat” (justice) and carrying placards with words “justice, work and bread .”
