KABUL (Pajhwok): Police have arrested a man who took passports and money from 110 individuals promising them student visas, Kabul police said on Monday.

The detainee took around $1,000 to $2,000 from each victim, police said.

Khalid Zadran, Kabul police headquarters spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that a company promised people student visas and took money from 110 people, who were swindled out of $1,000 up to $2,000 each.

Zadran said police took action after some people complained and arrested one of the two suspects. The second suspect has fled and police are searching for him.

“This man is a fraud and was defrauding people, they have no student visas,” Zadran said.

Maulvi Obaidullah Mazlomyar, deputy chief of sixth police district, in a video clip said that people complained to police that a tourism company had taken their passports, but its office was shut then and its owner was not present.

“So we tasked our intelligence personnel who finally managed to get the passports” Mazlomiar added.

An individual in the video clip says: “This international company promised us students’ visas and took our passports 25 days ago, we were then informed after that the company was closed and its officials have fled, so we wrote to the police station, they managed to find our passports, we thank them for their efforts”.

“The head of the company is under our investigation and he will be handed over to judicial organs soon”, Mazlomiar said.
