MEHTHALAM (Pajhwok): Fifteen green houses for women are being built in eastern Laghman province, an official of the provincial Agriculture and Livestock Department said on Thursday.
Construction work on the green houses has been launched in provincial capital Mehthalam, Qarghayi, Alingar, Alishang and Badpakh districts.
Eng. Baryali Hamdard, an official of the agriculture and livestock department, told Pajhwok Afghan News the 50 green houses were being built with financial support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
He did not have information about the cost on these green houses, but added the green houses would be given to women farmers in the province.
According to him, every woman would be given 30 types of essential tools to use them in the greenhouses.
On the other hand, resident of the mentioned areas expressed their happiness over the construction of greenhouses.
Hikmatyar, a resident of Shergar area of Mehtarlam, told Pajhwok the government besides constructing a greenhouse for him also provided him some equipment.
He added: “I run a hand cart in the city, some days I find work, but other days I don’t. However after this I will work in my greenhouse everyday.”
According to the Department of Agriculture and Livestock, 220 greenhouses have been already established in the province so far with the help of aid giving organizations.
