HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents of Herat City, the capital of western Herat province, have said the lack of garbage dumpsters and none cooperative behavior of the people have caused environmental pollution and accumulation of garbage on the road sides.

They said due to growing pollution the beauty of the city had hampered while hygiene related problems increased.

They said Herat City is known for cleanliness and hygiene, adding that recently the lack of garbage dumpsters there was disorder in the city recently.

Rohullah Ahmadi, a local resident told Pajhwok Afghan News, the lack of dumpsters created problems for the people in Herat City.

He stressed dumpsters should be placed close to shops, in the parks, entertainment places and other points so that people will put the useless things there.

He stressed the government should increase the number of dumpsters in the city and people should also work hard to put useless things in the dumpsters.

Haji Malok, another resident of Herat City, said the lack of dustbins and dumpsters made people to put trash on the roadside on footpath.

Herat Municipality Spokesperson Nasir Armal said dustbins would be placed in different parts of the city in the near future.

He said these bins would be placed around the Taraqi Park, Dar-i-Kandahar and other crowded places.

He added municipality personnel regularly collected trash and waste and sent it outside the city to ensure hygiene and cleanliness in the city.

The Municipality Department explained that having a regular team, this department performed its daily cleaning responsibilities efficiently and asked people, shopkeepers, passers-by and all city dwellers to cooperate with Municipality to keeping the city clean and refrain from throwing garbage in inappropriate places.

Ali Ahmad Mohammadi, an environmental affairs expert, said that overloading of waste in the dumpsters caused the spread of infections and this caused the spread of different viral diseases.

He also asked the local residents to cooperate with the Municipality to ensure the cleanliness of the city.

He said having clean and orderly city demonstrated that its residents are culturally aware and recognized their responsibilities and this has a direct impact on the environment.

This comes that the Municipality often called on people through advertisement and using other tools seeking the cooperation of people in the cleanliness of the city.
