Passport office to verify paper ID cards of applicants

KABUL (Pajhwok): The General Directorate of Passports will verify paper ID cards of those applying for passports under a cooperation agreement signed between the National Statistics and Information Agency and the Ministry of Interior on Thursday.

MoI spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani wrote on X that the agreement was signed between MoI administrative assistant  Maulvi Noor Jalal Jalali and acting director of the National Statistics and Information Agency, Dr. Faqir Mohammad Ziyar.

Qani said the system of the General Department of Passport of the Ministry of Interior would be connected with the information system of the National Statistics and Information Agency based on the agreement.

He said the agreement was signed to expedite the process of registering identity of the citizens and to prevent delay in the issuance of passports.

Qani said now citizens could verify their identity cards at the main passport office while applying for passport.

Previously, the National Statistics and Information Agency would verify paper ID cards.
