MEHTARALAM (Pajhwok): The Refugee and Repatriation Department of eastern Laghman province says construction work has been launched on permanent shelters for 177 needy families at a cost of 60 million afghanis in different areas of the province.
Maulvi Ghulam Rahman Bilal, refugee and repatriation director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the houses were being constructed with financial support of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Mehtarlam and three districts.
He said 23 houses will be built in Mehtharlam, 15 houses in Alingar and Dawlat Shah and 113 houses in Alishang districts.
He added the houses would consume 60,578,000 afs and provide work opportunities to nearly 900 people.
On the other hand, residents of the areas hailed the scheme.
Matiullah, a resident of Salab Allia area of Alishang district, told Pajhwok that his house was destroyed in flash floods and he was unable to reconstruct it.
He added: “I am happy that the government is constructing two rooms, a veranda and a bathroom for me.”
Meanwhile, Faridoon, resident of Muskori area of the provincial capital, told Pajhwok they were poor and could not effort to build a house. He said currently they lived in a rented house.
Besides Laghman, recent flash floods caused heavy life and financial losses in other provinces as well.
