Parwan woman commits suicide, spouse detained

CHARIKAR (Pajhwok): A woman has committed suicide by hanging herself to death in the Siagird district of central Parwan province, an official said on Saturday.

In a statement, the police headquarters identified the woman as Roz Gul, daughter of Rasool Gul. She hailed the from Milikhel valley of the district.

The woman’s body was evacuated to the forensic department by security forces for an investigation. Her husband had been detained, police said.

The motive behind the suicide is yet to be known and an investigation is underway into the incident, the police headquarters added.

Suicide incidents have increased in the country recently.

According to Pajhwok reports, at least 109 people committed suicide during the past 12 months, with half of such deaths blamed on domestic violence, mental illnesses and six other factors. Fifty people resorted to suicide for unknown reasons.

Pajhwok’s findings show suicide incidents occurred in 24 provinces of the country, 25 percent in Faryab and 72 percent of the victims were under 35 years of age.

Committing suicide is a big sin in Islam. Religious scholars and psychologists say the government, media, scholars and psychologists raise awareness among the people to prevent such incidents.
