6 militants killed in Gwadar, Bajaur attacks

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Two militants were killed after they attacked a military convoy in southwestern Balochistan province, the army said.

A statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the militants carried out the attack in Gwadar on Sunday, using small arms and hand grenades.

“However, due to the efficient and swift response (from security forces), two terrorists were sent to hell with no harm to any military or civil persons,” the statement added.

Earlier, the army’s media wing said an operation was launched in the area after the presence of militants was reported. One militant was killed and three others were injured during the exchange of fire with security forces.

Separately, the Chinese consulate in the port city of Karachi said the convoy that came under attack was carrying Chinese workers.

The mission wrote on its website: “A Chinese convoy from the Gwadar port project was hit by roadside bombs and gunfire on its way back from the Gwadar Airport. No Chinese citizens were killed or injured.”

The consulate urged Pakistan to severely punish the the attackers and take concrete measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions and projects.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, the security forces killed four militants and arrested one during an intelligence-based operation (IBO).

ISPR said security forces conducted the operation in Charmang area after receiving reports about the presence of militants.

Weapons, ammunition and explosives, including a suicide vest, were also recovered from the militants. A 24-year-old soldier was killed in the gunfight.
