KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) has collected over 8.9 billion afs revenue last year and the country’s airspace was currently opened for international flights.

Hafiz Sediqullah Abid, the finance and administration secretary of the Transport and Civil Aviation Ministry said last year 8.9 billion afs revenue collected and sent to the state treasury.

He said last year the target for the revenue collection was set over 4.7 but the revenue collection was four billion afs greater than the set target.

He said the inspection of 6,111 transport vehicles of different companies, registration of 900 transport companies, registration 673,982 foreign vehicles from crossing the national ports and the transfer of over 46 million tonnes of goods were the major activities of the ministry last year.

Haseebullah Sarosh, secretary safety and audit at the ministry, said that Afghanistan’s airspace was now opened for international flights and currently transit and international flights were using it.

He said the repair and maintenance of networks, system and technical items at the airport and improving the standard of its services were also the ministry last year’s achievement.

He said last year hundreds of flights took place, 531,099 passengers inside and outside the country had been transferred out of which 35,467 were foreigners while 176,452 were locals.

Sarosh said the ministry issued 1662 licenses to local and foreign airlines last year. Each license can be vialed for up to 100 flights.

He said with the cooperation of neighbouring countries 25540 flights using the country airspace had been registered in Khost, Qala-i-Naw, Laghman, Takhar and Gardez last year.
