KABUL (Pajhwok): Police have arrested eight carjackers in capital Kabul in connection with nine car stealing cases.
In a video clip published on X, the Kabul police headquarters said: “The eight-member gang of car-lifters who had stolen nine vehicles from different parts of Kabul was at last arrested after continued search by police personnel”.
It said three of the cars were handed over to their owners and owners of the remaining six cars were yet to be known.
The police urged people whose cars had been stolen to approach 15th police district of Kabul.
Qari Ezatullah, detective director at 15th police district, said: “Maiwand aka Islamuddin, the gang leader, was involved in stealing vehicles from different parts of Kabul. He would transfer the stolen cars to Balkh and Kapisa.”
He said Islamuddin was detained along with seven other associates and all the cars they had moved to Kapisa were brought back to Kabul.
According to him, the cases of the detainees have been referred to relevant organs.

In the video clip, one of the detainees who introduces himself as Hamid, said: “We wanted to transfer two cars to Kapisa, we transferred one car to Kapisa and were traying to transfer the second car when police arrested us.”
Islamuddinsaid: “We would purchase vehicles from Gul Rassoul and then transfer them to Mazar-i-Sharif.”
One of the car owners, Murtaza said: "On Tuesday, my car was stolen from the 5th district, I informed the district police who informed me about an hour and a half later that my car was found by the Mujahideen of the 15th district and today I received my car from the police headquarters."
Also, Mohammadullah, another person, said: "My car was stolen on Wednesday and I informed the 15th district police, two days later they called me and told me that police had arrested the thieves and now I received my car.”
