Child sold for 30,000 afs returned to family in Bamyan

BAMYAN (Pajhwok): A three-month-old child has been returned to his family nine days after his father sold him to another family for 30,000 afghanis due to extreme poverty in central Bamyan province, officials said on Friday.

Ahmad Shah, a resident of Bamyan City, told Pajhwok that poverty forced him to sell his baby son for 35,000 afghanis to save the lives of other members of his family.

The father said he could not bear his son’s separation and demanded he should be given back to him.

Provincial government spokesman Saboor Farzan Seghani told Pajhwok Governor Maulvi Abdullah Sarhadi ordered an investigation into the matter and directed local officials to resolve it.

He said the child was handed over to his family by the governor yesterday afternoon.

Farzan said the economic situation of Ahmad Shah and the family who bought his son was the same. The buyer has no male child.

He said with the consent of both families, the child was returned to his mother and the governor provided financial assistance to both families.
