Nangarhar reconstruction projects generate work opportunities

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Hundreds of individuals would be provided with work opportunities in eastern Nangarhar province as a result of 113 development projects which had been launched, an official said on Saturday.

Maulvi Qismatullah Mubariz, Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department (RRD) director, told Pajhwok Afghan News about 113 developments projects had been launched in the province this year out of which 72 had been completed while 41 others were underway.

The development projects were amid at generating work opportunity as well as promoting reconstruction.

The projects include reconstruction of canals, roads, rivers, culverts, clean drinking water supply networks and many others of which construction works have been underway in 22 districts of the province.

He said: "We had completed 72 projects in province this year, in which four projects were the construction of canals and roads and others were the clean drinking water supply projects.”

Mawlavi Mubarez added the purpose of these projects were to provide job opportunities, reconstruction of the villages, provide clean drinking water to the people and prevent drought.

"I don't have exact figures but hundreds of people had been provided employment in these projects and in the future we also have plan to provide employment to people by implementing such projects as well.”

Organization of Human Welfare (OHW) is one of the institutions that have funded many projects with cooperation of the RRDD in the field of providing clean drinking water in the province.

Eng. Ziaul Haq, an official of OHW said: “Construction of clean drinking water supply networks to provide people with access to potable water and to protect them from diseases and provide them with temporary employment.”

Awal Khan, resident of Rodat district, who provided with job opportunity in construction of a canal, says that they should also be provided assistance in agriculture sector.

He said: “We were very grateful that we had been provided with employment and we urged government and aid giving organization to assist us in improved seeds and chemical fertilizers.”

Meanwhile, Ghulam Rahman, a tribal elder of Haska Mina district who was provided job opportunity in construction of a water supply project said the government should implement more similar projects to provide people with permanent employment.

Some residents of the province consider implementing such projects but emphasized on the quality of work.

Malik Darya Khan, a tribal leader of Dorbaba district, told Pajhwok that the projects were beneficial because they do things according to the people's wishes and needs, and the people were also provided with job opportunities.

The officials of department say that 46 other similar projects have been prepared and the works will be started soon.
