JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The reconstruction work of Jalalabad-Torkham Highway in eastern Nangarhar province has started at the cost of 21 million afs, an official said on Tuesday.
Nangarhar Public Works Department Director Mawlavi Yar Mohammad Mohammadi told Pajhwok Afghan News the Jalalabad-Torkham highway which was constructed two decades ago direly need reconstruction.
He said the Public Works Department started to reconstruction of the high way at the cost of 21 million afs which will be completed in six months.
Nangarhar Deputy Governor Saeed Ahmad Banwri during the inauguration ceremony said the reconstruction of the road was not only vital for the passengers and traded with Pakistan but also important for the people of Nangarhar province.
He asked the contractor to pay attention to the quality for work.
Passengers travelling on the road are thrilled about the reconstruction.
Mansour, one of the Jalalabad-Torkham highway drivers, said: “Every week we park the car the car on mechanic due to the dilapidated condition of the road”
Akbar, the resident of Momandara’s Gardi Ghos, was happy about the reconstruction of the road and said the remaining work on the second lane Jalalabad-Torkham Highway should also be started.
Jalalabad-Torkham second lane road construction started by Pakistan 13 years ago but remained uncompleted.
