KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 18,000 people contracted coronavirus during the last nine months of this year and 97 of them died from the infection during the period across the country, the Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday.
According to a Pajhwok report, the Ministry of Public Health had said that since the outbreak of Covid-19 until March this year, more than 210,000 people have been infected with the virus and nearly 8,000 lost their lives.
According to the ministry, 18,000 people contracted the virus during the last nine months.
Dr. Sharaf Zaman, MoPH spokesperson, told Pajhwok Afghan News today that since the beginning of this year, 18,000 people got infected with the coronavirus in the country and 97 people died.
According to the ministry, the highest recorded numbers of infected people were in Kabul and Herat provinces.
He added donor organizations working in the health sector were still funding and helping the fight against coronavirus with the Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, Dr. Faridullah Omari Trainor, a specialist at Antony Hospital in Kabul city, told Pajhwok that still a number of people got infected with coronavirus in the country and patients visited the hospital daily.
But according to him, these patients do not need to be hospitalized because they are not in serious condition.
He said: "Patients infected with Covid-19 go through a normal pneumonia and for this reason we do not have patients in the hospital."
He said in addition to giving Covid-19 patients medicines, they were also given information about how to care and prevent the disease.
