KABUL (Pajhwok): The reception office at the Kabul International Airport has been inaugurated after being repaired to welcome Afghan refugees returning to the country, officials said on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) wrote on its Facebook page last night that the reception area was inaugurated by Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) and International Organization for Migration (IOM) officials.

The reception office had sustained damages and had been inactive since the American troops left the country, but it was repaired by MoRR and IOM and is ready to provide services.

Refugees and Repatriation Minister Khalilur Rahman Haqqani, who attended the reception office’s inauguration ceremony with IOM Humanitarian Access Officer in Afghanistan Adnan Baghajati, said: “We want the IOM to increase its financial and food assistance considering the dire situation of the returnees and their transportation to remote provinces of the country and help the caretaker government in arranging temporary shelter for the returnees outside the airport.”

Adnan Baghajati promised to share his requests with top IOM officials.

Legal adviser at MoRR Ghulam Nabi Dadkhel said right now the IOM was providing €147 to every returnee besides some food assistance and other services.

Dadkhel said the reception office has the capacity to welcome about 500 arrivals at one time.
