PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Security forces have rescued a 75-year-old man from confinement at the hands of his sons in Pul-i-khumri, the capital of northern Baghlan province.
Police spokesman Maulvi Sher Ahmad Burhani told Pajhwok Afghan News the elderly man, Syed Gul, had been chained in his house by his sons in the Hussainkhel village of Pul-i-khumri.
He said the man, around 75 years-old, was rescued on Tuesday, had been kept in confinement by his sons for the last 15 months.
On receiving information about the man’s plight, police took immediate action and freed him.
The reason for the man’s captivity is yet to be ascertained and no one has been arrested so far. But efforts were being made to arrest his sons, the official said.
Village council chief Haji Farhad Ahmadzai said the incident happened in Walikhel village, about five kilometres from Hussainkhel village.
He said: “This man has developed a mental disorder. His sons had confined him to stop him leaving home or harming himself.”
