PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhowk): Governor of northern Baghlan province Maulvi Abdul Rahman Haqqani has assured of completing the reconstruction work of Salang tunnel soon.
While assessing the reconstruction work of Salang tunnel, Maulvi Haqqani told Pajhwok Afghan News that the tunnel’s reconstruction work had been 80 percent completed and the rest would be completed soon.
He said based on a contract, Afghan companies were reconstructing the Russian-built tunnel that connects Kabul with northern Afghanistan.
According to Haqqani, no foreigner is involved in the project and people should not worry about the highway’s reopening.
Eng. Syed Abrar, head of a contracting company, said all heavy and time-consuming work inside the tunnel had been completed and the remaining work was easy.
The reconstruction work would be completed in near future and the highway would be reopened for traffic, he informed.
The highway connects nine northern provinces with the south and four huge ports with Kabul.
Thousands of vehicles ply the highway on a daily basis. Passengers and drivers welcomed the tunnel’s reconstruction.
