Norway concerned at mass deportation of Afghan refugees

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed concern over mass deportation of Afghans from Pakistan.

The ministry wrote on its X handle: “Norway shares concerns over humanitarian implications of large-scale return of Afghans from Pakistan.”

“We urge Pakistan to put in place effective mechanism to identify and protect vulnerable people seeking safety in Pakistan.”

Following the expiry of the October 31 deadline for illegal migrants to leave Pakistan, the government has been detaining and deporting Afghan refugees.

In addition to the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, many human rights organisations have urged Pakistan to stop mass deportations on humanitarian grounds, but Islamabad remains stuck to its guns on the issue.
