Confined by father for 2 years, Bamyan woman freed

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces have rescued a 28-year-old woman from confinement at the hands of her father in central Bamyan province.

Police spokesman Mohammad Khwani Rasa told Pajhwok Afghan News the young woman, Tahira, had been confined by her father to a dark room for the last two years in the  Zard Sang area of Punjab district.

He said the woman was rescued by security forces on Monday night. “She came to her father's house after divorced by her husband. She had since been living with her stepmother.”

He added initial investigations suggested Tahira had been held captive by her father after having a dispute with her stepmother.

The woman was in critical health condition and has been taken to hospital for medical treatment, Rasa said.

Her father and stepmother had been arrested and were being interrogated, the police spokesman concluded.
