KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Interior Affairs Sirajuddin Haqqani has sought international attention to drug control and providing alternative livelihoods for Afghan farmers.

Haqqani stressed the need for alternative livelihoods for growers in a meeting with Japanese Ambassador Takayoshi Kuromiya here on Wednesday.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior said the Japanese diplomat reiterated his country’s support for Afghanistan, highlighting ongoing assistance to refugees and the health sector.

He commended IEA efforts resettling the returning refugees, countering-corruption and eradicating the menace of drugs.

Haqqani expressed gratitude to Japan for continued cooperation with and assistance to the Afghan people.

He called for the international community to focus on drug control and providing alternative livelihoods for Afghan farmers to mitigate the devastating impacts of the humanitarian crisis.
