Canada donates $21m to assist vulnerable Afghan refugees

KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada has contributed 21 million US dollars to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to support vulnerable Afghan populations in Central Asia and Pakistan.

Canada's Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Mark Miller said yesterday at the "Refugee Global Forum" meeting in Geneva that his country has donated 21 million US dollars for the purpose of resettling Afghan refugees in Central Asia and Pakistan.

He added the aid has been handed over to IOM to support host countries in meeting the needs of Afghan refugees.

“Canada is committed to protecting and resettling the oppressed, including women, religious and ethnic minorities, and human rights defenders in unsafe conditions.”

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), since August 2021, more than 43,000 Afghan refugees have been transferred to the country.
