KABUL (Pajhwok): The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has decided to delay the 2024 annual central contracts for three players.
Additionally, the ACB has also chosen not to grant Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi and Naveen Ul Haq no-objection certificates (NOCs) for the next two years.
The action has been initiated on the basis of the players’ intention to be released from their annual central contracts, the boards said in a statement.
It added the ACB’s refusal to offer central contract to the trio was prompted by their involvement in commercial leagues and prioritisation of personal interests over playing for Afghanistan.
The board has assigned a dedicated committee to thoroughly investigate the matter, submit appropriate recommendations to the ACB management.
A committee member said: “The three players formally communicated their decision to the ACB, expressing their desire to walk out of the annual central contract, starting from January 1, 2024. They also requested consideration of their consent for participation in national events.”
Committee’s recommendations
- Refusal of central contracts: Starting from January 1, 2024, the three players shall not be eligible for the central contracts for one year. In this case, ACB will decide on their participation in events, when needed.
- Delay NOCs: These players will be deemed ineligible for NOCs for two years. All current NOCs shall be revoked immediately.
- Transparently communicate ACB’s stance to the cricketing community, including ICC, ACC, member countries/boards, and the Afghan public.
The ACB decision comes with a focus on national priorities, aligned with the board’s core values and principles.
It highlights the necessity for every player to adhere to ACB's principles and prioritise the country's interests above personal considerations.
