KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has stressed the need for serious attention to be paid to women’s living conditions in Afghanistan and the continuation of talks with Iran and Pakistan on the principles the foundation of which had been already laid.
Ghani expressed these views in ABN Network’s third Podcast the Zwand Larai — life’s trails.
Afghan women’s living conditions
Ashraf Ghani said that women were basic member of a society and there was need for more attention to be paid to women’s living conditions in Afghanistan.
He said: “There are many widow women who hold responsibilities for their families and if they don’t work you know what will be the future of their daughters? What will be the future of the small sons?”
Referring to the current government’s policy, he said: “When you stop someone from work then you have to dare to provide them all facilities, who had been given this right by God to kill someone gradually?”
From the past two years under the Islamic Emirate government women and girls have been stopped from going to education institutes and work in offices. The acting government officials have stressed over the provision of suitable condition in this regard.
However, it is pertinent to mention that in some government institutions and private sector women are allowed to work. The acting government also issue salaries of women employees who had been banned from going to office.
Afghanistan’s challenges
The former president linked unfair treatment of Afghans in the region with tension felt by regional countries that on which direction will Afghanistan move in the future.
He said: “In order to control these challenges and make things predictable there was need for strategy which could halt future threats and identify priorities on the bases of facts and figures.”
On unfair treatment of Afghan refugees in Iran and Pakistan, the former president said during his tenure he discussed mutual long-term cooperation.
He said foundation of talks with Iran and Pakistan had been laid and the same discussion should be moved forward.
