SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): The Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry in northern Jawzjan province says the number of women applying for business licenses has increased compared to the past.
Fatima Nik Rasouli, director the chamber, told Pajhwok that currently 2,433 businesswomen were registered with their department.
She said there was no accurate number of businesswomen from previous years, but three years ago their number exceeded 1000
According to her, on average every week 2 or 3 women apply for a business license in the province, something rarely happened in the past.
Pleased with the increase in women’s interest in business, she said: “Women’s interest in business is a good sign”
According to her, good facilities have been provided for professional women to carry on their businesses with comfort.
Abu Raihan Intizar, an economic affairs expert in Jawzan province, called the increase in women’s interest in business sector promising and said it had positive effect on the economic status of families and the country.
He stressed the need to support businesswomen and said the government should provide good facilities for such women and explore market for their products.
Businesswomen also call for support
Nasira Ahmadi, a female tradeswoman who works in handicraft production sector, demanded of the government to support craftswomen.
She, who recently started her business, said: “We sell our products online from America, France, Canada, we have many orders, our orders for local goods and start from 30 dollars to 200 dollars and even 500 dollars.”
Meanwhile, Wahida Karim, another businesswoman said that she was facing many challenges in running her business.
She added: “There is no suitable domestic market for our sales, and we still do not have the facilities to sell local clothes and Afghan goods in global markets. If national merchants support us, we can have best sales in the world.”
