UAE aid sought for Afghan refugees in Pakistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Afghan Consul-General in Karachi Syed Abdul Jabbar Takhari has asked the United Emirates (UAE) to provide assistance for Afghan refugees in Pakistan.

Takhari met Bakheet Ateeq Al-Rumaithi, the UAE  consul general, in Karachi on Thursday, the Afghanistan Consulate said in a statement.

Takhari said thousands Afghan refugee families were living in remote areas of Pakistan’s Sindh province. Most of them did not have access to basic facilities of life, he added.

The diplomat noted: “The UAE aid organisations were widely functioning in Sindh province, extending humanitarian assistance to the needy and vulnerable people...”

He asked the aid agencies to construct schools, clinics and hospitals equipped with modern facilities in Afghan refugee-inhabited areas.

Many projects had been executed in Afghanistan after the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), Takhari explained.

For his part, Al-Rumaithi promised they would address the problems of Afghan refugees in Sindh. He will visit refugee camps to closely see their problems in coordination with the Afghan consulate.
