KABUL (Pajhwok): Changes in the education curriculum are not meant to marginalize modern subjects, but the new curriculum for schools and religious seminaries has been prepared based on modern sciences and technology.
Earlier, Ministry of Education spokesman (MoE) Mansour Ahmad Hamza in an interview with the National Radio and Television, had said the curriculum reform process had been completed till class sixth and text which was un-Islamic and against the culture of Afghanistan had been removed.
The curriculum for schools and religious seminaries has been prepared based on scientific and technical developments in the world and Islamic and national culture, the MoE said in a statement.
It said: “In view of the above points, the leadership of the MoE has appointed a technical committee for reforming and harmonizing the curriculum based on the advancement of modern sciences and the new educational curriculum has been completed till sixth grade.”
The statement added the new curriculum draft had been submitted to the High Committee for review.
According to the statement, this committee has been entrusted with the task of using current technology and scientific achievements in the content of religious seminaries and ducational curricula of the country.
The ministry assured these reforms did not mean marginalizing modern subjects, but to utilize latest achievements of modern sciences.
However, soon after seizing power, the Islamic Emirate has banned girls above the sixth grade from going to school, and subsequently, girls were also barred from going to university.
However, recently girls in Kabul have been allowed to go to educational centers with the observance of Islamic hijab and separate lessons.
