ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Residents of Asadabad, the provincial capital, and districts of eastern Kunar province now hold poetic and literary sittings instead of playing music during wedding and engagement ceremonies.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has banned music across the country and now the people of Kunar organize poetic sessions and literary sittings during weeding, engagement and graduation ceremonies.
Mohammad Laiq Samon, a culture activist in Asadabad, said literary sessions would help strengthen the cultural process in the province.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News: "Earlier, we would celebrate wedding and other happy ceremonies by playing music, but now people hold poetic sessions in these ceremonies instead of music.”
He said: "I celebrated my wedding ceremony by organizing a poetry session, many poets and literary lovers participated in it."
At the same time, the Kunar Information and Culture Department expressed agreement with poetic sessions instead of playing music in wedding ceremonies.
Maulvi Munibullah Afghan, an official of the department, said: "Fortunately, with takeover of the IEA, a lot of negativity has been prevented, previously wedding ceremonies were celebrated against Sharia, but now it has been prevented.”
