Nearly 1,400 students graduate from literacy classes in Logar

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Nearly 1,400 students have graduated from 74 literacy classes in five districts of central Logar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Education Department spokesman Shahpur Arab told Pajhwok Afghan News 1,370 students had graduated in Pul-i-Alam, Mohammad Agha, Khoshi, Baraki Barak, Charkh and Kharwar districts from the Ministry of Education's Literacy Program courses.

“These students included 714 males and 656 females who graduated from 74 literacy classes in nine months,” Arab added.

He said these students were given third grade certificates to continue their study in schools.

Rahimullah, a 38-year-old resident of Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok that he was happy to have attended literacy classes.

“Wars and economic problems had deprived me of education, but I joined nd learned a lot in literacy classes in past year and now I can solve my problems,” he explained.

Last week, 1,024 people graduated from a one year literacy program funded by UNESCO in Pul-i-Alam and districts of the province.
