SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Ninety of internally-displaced families in northern Jawzjan province have been granted shelters, local officials said on Thursday.
Director of Refugees Damullah Amanullah Abu Talha told Pajhwok Afghan News shelters were distributed to families displaced from Sar-i-Pul and Faryab provinces to Jawzjan about eight years ago because of wars.
Each internally displaced family had got a shelter with two rooms and a corridor, equipped with solar electricity, Abu Talha explained.
According to information from the director, the shelters are worth $344,000 donated by partner organisations to the Department of Refugees and Repatriates.
Meanwhile, the war-displaced families voiced their happiness over receiving the shelters.
Amir Hamza, one of the IDPs from Faryab, said he was forced to live in Jawzjan because of war seven years ago. He lived a tough life along with his family in a tent.
While appreciating the support, he said: “Lack of shelter was one of the major challenges we faced. In biting winter and hot summer, we suffered a variety of ailments.”
Hailing from Faryab province, Mohammad Naeem was very happy with getting a shelter. He said they had witnessed hard times over the past seven years.
