Profiteering in Ramadan: Dozens of shops closed in Tirinkot

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The municipality in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province, has closed dozens of shops over charging excessive prices during Ramadan.

Tarinkot mayor Qari Hidayatullah Hidayat told Pajhwok the price control and monitoring committee of the municipality had closed more than 30 shops in different parts of the city.

He added that with the arrival of Ramadan, Tirinkot Municipality distributed price lists for food and non-food items.

He said the committee had tasked some people in the city with secretly monitoring the prices of goods and introducing violators to the special committee of the municipality.

He said the price lists had been shared with the citizens through social media. He asked the people to contact the numbers written on the page in case of any violation.

Residents of Trinkot city were happy that the municipality had fixed the prices and the violators were being dealt with legally.

Abdul Wali, a resident of Tirinkot city, said some shopkeepers had doubled the prices of goods with the arrival of Ramadan.

He asked the government to continue controlling the prices and taking legal action against the violators.
