KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Nations chief has renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza to let global aid flow into the embattled Palestinian city.
AFP quoted Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as saying on Saturday: “Palestinians in Gaza -- children, women, men --remain stuck in a non-stop nightmare.”
On the Egyptian side of Rafah, Guterres said he echoed calls for a truce in Gaza from a huge majority of the world that had already witnessed a lot of suffering.
“Any further onslaught will make things even worse,” the secretary-general warned, with Israeli insisting on going ahead with the Rafah operation.
The Israeli government has constantly disregarded international pressure to relent its airstrikes and ground offensive against Palestinians.
He commented the blockade of many relief trucks on one side of the gates and the long shadow of starvation on the other amounted to a moral outrage.
