HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Three radio stations -- Hurriyet, Omid and Shariah --have gone on the air in western Herat province.
Deputy Minister of Information Maulvi Hayatullah Mohajir said at the opening ceremony the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) could not ignore the positive impact of media on improved governance.
The interim government supported the media outlets that operated in accordance with the law and the national interests, he said.
Information and Culture Director Maulvi Ahmadullah Muttaqi viewed good media outlets as a community requirement.
Such news organisations reflect facts and share information, according to the director, who believed they could play a positive role in countering cultural invasion.
Radio Shariat Director Eng. Mohammad Nabi Qazizada said the stations would broadcast a variety of programs with comprehensive contents for the community.
The radio stations would air programmes around the clock and their central offices would be located in Kabul, he explained.
The new radio stations have go on the air in a province where 28 different media outlets already operate.
