KABUL (Pajhwok): Former President Hamid Karzai and former Head of the High National Reconciliation Council (HNRC) Abdullah Abdullah have termed Iran’s military response to Israel as the neighbouring country’s legitimate right to self-defence.
Earlier on April 01, Israel bombed Iran’s consulate in Damascus, the capital of Syria, and killed seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
In response, Iran on Saturday night attacked Israel with around 300 drones, cruise and ballistic missiles.
Former President Hamid Karzai on his Twitter handle wrote: “Israel's attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus was one of the new incidents that faced the reaction of the Islamic Republic of Iran according to Iran's legitimate right of defense, Iran is Afghanistan brotherly neighbouring country which stood with our people in difficult time also feel sympathy and solidarity with the people of Iran.”
He added the war in Gaza has also created the worst human disaster, which must end as soon as possible with the establishment of a permanent ceasefire and the Palestinian people reaching an independent state to resolve the current crisis and ensure peace between the Palestinians, Israel and the entire region.
The former head of the HCNR on his Twitter handle wrote: “By attacking the Iranian consulate in Syria, Israel violated laws about the international conventions, the security of diplomatic missions and international norms.”
He said: “Iran is our neighbor and we share common religious, historical and cultural and currently Iran hosts millions of Afghans, any action of Israel against Iran and the escalation of the crisis has a direct impact on the situation in Afghanistan and unpredictable negative consequences for the peace and security of the region and the world, we support every measure that is taken for peace, stability and reducing tension.”
Earlier, The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) had justified Iran’s retaliatory response against an earlier Israel attack on its consulate in Damascus and said the neighboring country exercised its legitimate right to self-defense.
Head of the Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan HIA Gulbadin Hekmatyar also defended Iran’s retaliatory attack on Israel as a justified action.
