KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi has discussed expanding bilateral ties in various sectors with a Malaysian delegation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said in a statement that Muttaqi met with the visiting Malaysian delegation in Kabul.
The delegation comprised representatives from the country’s ministries of foreign affairs, defense, interior and advisors of the prime minister.
Muttaqi stressed the need for enhanced diplomatic, religious, cultural and economic relations between the two countries.
He appreciated humanitarian assistance, especially with victims of earthquake in western Herat province, from Malaysia and good stance of that country towards Afghanistan throughout the history.
He said: “Good opportunities are created for investment and trade in Afghanistan after the takeover of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA). The caretaker government follows a balanced and economic-oriented foreign policy in political and economic fields.”
He added Afghanistan’s relations with international community were improving. Currently, he added, Afghanistan’s embassies were active in many regional countries
He said the IEA desired to expand ties with southeast countries and asked Malaysian government to provide health and education opportunities for Afghans living in that country.
The Malaysian delegation said they would continue to engage with the Afghan government and hoped to maintain sustainable cooperation with Kabul.
A trade delegation of Malaysia will travel to Afghanistan in near future, they announced.
Separately, acting Minister of Commerce and Industry Nooruddin Aziz also met with the Malaysian delegation.
Both sides discussed strengthening trade ties between the countries and providing markets for Afghan exports.
Azizi emphasized regional countries’ investment in Afghanistan and asked Malaysian’s investors to invest in Afghanistan.
