GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Two rival families in southern Ghazni province have reconciled after 12 years of enmity through the mediation of government officials, religious scholars and tribal elders.
Governor Hafiz Amin Jan Umari told Pajhwok Afghan News the enmity between the two families from the Qala-i-Naw village of Khawaja Umari district was triggered after a murder which was settled through the mediation of government officials, religious scholars and tribal elders.
He said: “Abdul Basir’s and Zalmai’s families had a dispute over land 12 years ago in which Zalmai’s son was murdered and after the murder enmity between the two sides started, but now the issue has been resolved.”
He said disputes and enmity destroy life, pose threats and generate troubles and problems in the society.
He called for dispute resolution in the society through talks.
Mujmar, a tribal elder and member of this Jirga, said both families were enemies for years but the dispute had been addressed now.
He said: “In the future, both sides would live under the shadow of brotherhood and peace and would cooperate with one another for the betterment.”
Sher Ahmad Sahim, a civil society activist in Ghazni, said these kinds of reconciliations could unite people and result in the development of districts and villages.
He thanked local officials and tribal elders for their reconciliation efforts and called on ulema and government officials in other parts of the country to make similar efforts in their areas.
It is pertinent to mention that in the past recompilation Jirgas were held in the Qarabah, Jaghori, Nawar, Gailan, Ajristan and Nawa districts and serious feuds between families and tribes had been addressed.
