FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A resident of Daraem district in northeastern Badakhshan province has been killed as a result of a clash between security forces and farmers during a poppy eradication operation, a statement said on Saturday.
“Unfortunately, a clash occurred between security forces and farmers in Daraem district during the poppy eradication campaign,” reads the Provincial Police Headquarters statement.
It said the clash took place in Karlaq village on Friday during poppy eradication operation by police personnel.
The statement added residents of the area threw stones and sticks at Mujahideen and wanted to set alight vehicles and equipment of security forces.
Local sources say that residents of the area have protested the killing of a resident and demanded justice.
