TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): Counter-narcotics department officials discovered an ephedra processing factory and seized 920kg of the plant used in making drugs in central Uruzgan province, police said Wednesday.
Police spokesman Bilal Uruzgani said the ephedra processing factory was found in Katasar area of Derawud district and one person was arrested in connection with the case.
About 1,000kg of ephedra was seized and set alight, he said, adding that police also foiled a bid to smuggle 920kg of Harirang in Khas Uruzgan district, but arrested no one.
Ephedra or Harirang grows in mountains and the Ministry of Agriculture has banned the plant’s cutting, smuggling and selling.
