JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Eastern Nangarhar province would be converted into an Economic Zone and initial work in this regard has been started, an official said on Wednesday.
Hafiz Abdul Majeed Qiyaam, general director of Industrial Parks at the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, said this during a meeting with local officials in Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
Abdul Walli Baburakhel, deputy head of the Chamber of Commerce and investment (CCI) said that still businessmen and investors faced electricity and other issues in industrial parks.
He said the free of cost distribution of plots for the construction of factories in the Hisar-i-Shahi industrial park should be started, electricity and other problems faced by investors should be addressed.
Sayed Wahab Khogyani, deputy head of the Chamber of Industry and Mining (CIM), said investment had been made in hundreds of factories in this province, adding that the operation of these factories is affected by the shortage of electricity, raw materials and presence of similar foreign items.
Abdul Majeed Qiyaam said that the commerce ministry planned to convert the Hisar-i-Shahi industrial park into a Special Economic Zone.
He said discussion in this regard was launched with traders and industrialists and their suggestions are heard.
He assured that the problems faced by businessmen and investors had been noticed and would be shared with the ministry.
