KABUL (Pajhwok): More than 50 people have died as a result of heat strokes in India’s states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha, media report said on Saturday.

Firstpost reported following the increase in casualties, the Rajasthan court asked the government to declare a state of national emergency.

Reuters reported: “At least 33 people, including election officials on duty, died of suspected heatstroke in India’s states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Odisha on Friday.”

While temperatures in northwestern and central India are expected to fall in the coming days, the heatwave in the region may continue for two more days.

The temperature was 52.9 C in some areas in India and a high level of heat has been recorded in the country.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has also seen temperatures soar, going as high as 52.2 C last week.
