KABUL (Pajhwok): Last week, the Doha meeting on Afghanistan made headlines, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) termed stable Afghanistan in regional interest while some countries demanded the creation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan but the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) termed the nature of government its internal issue.

Last week’s major developments

Casualties:

Last week 11 people were killed and 12 others injured in Afghanistan in different incidents of violence.

Last week, a child was killed and his brother injured in a mortar shell blast in Helmand province, officials said.

In Logar, four children were killed and a youth injured in a warhead blast.

Reports said that unknown persons killed a woman and her husband in Farah province, three people were killed due to violent clash between two families in Nangarhar province and one person was killed in a similar incident in Bamyan province.

Eight people were killed and three others injured in Afghanistan in the previous week, said reports.

Before the regime change in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, hundreds of civilians and members of warring parties would get killed and injured every week.

3rd Doha meeting on Afghanistan

The 3rd Doha meeting on Afghanistan was held on June 30th and July 1st. the IEA was represented by its chief Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid whiel representatives from around 30 countries participated in the multinational huddle.

The meeting was chaired by UN Under-Secretary General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

Zabihullah Mujahid said Afghanistan’s stance has been acknowledged in the third UN-led Doha meeting which concluded with a favorable result for the country.

During the two day meeting Afghan delegation held 24 separate meetings with the representatives of different countries, He said.

As a matter of importance, nearly all participants of the meeting expressed their commitment to help Afghanistan for the development of private sector and fighting the drugs and they considered these issues as their obligations, Mujahid said.

SCO meeting

Last week the SCO member states — China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Kazakhistan, Kyghistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Mangolia, Azarbaijan, Qatar, UAE, Turkiye, Turkmenistan, held its two day annual meeting.

The meeting once again stressed over peaceful Afghanistan.

Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the resumption of Afghanistan contact group with SCO and added the move would help improve situation in Afghanistan.

The IEA spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said: “The is no problem in the resumption of contact group and SCO relationship if the purpose is to improve ties but still our foreign ministry should respond to this.”

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during SCO summit demanded meaningful interaction between the IEA and the world and stressed that the acting Afghan government should assure that its soil will not be used by terrorists against any other country.

UN Secretary General António Guterres told SCO summit: “We need peace and an inclusive government in Afghanistan that respect human rights and remained integrated with the international community, all countries should get united to prevent Afghanistan from becoming a terrorist safe haven.”

The IEA spokesperson while referring to inclusive government in Afghanistan said: “The inclusive government issue is an internal matter and we take decision keeping our national interest above all, regional and other countries should talk about issues related to their bilateral relationship with Afghanistan.”

Pakistan threaten attacking Afghanistan

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif during talks with BBC said as part of new military operation Pakistan would continue attacking Afghanistan as well.

He said the target would groups and individuals responsible for attacking Pakistani military personnel and civilians.

The Afghan Defence Ministry reacting to this statement and said: “Pakistan’s defense minister’s recent statement regarding the possibility of violating Afghanistan’s national sovereignty is an unwise act and an attempt to muddy the waters, which is not in anyone’s interest.”

The ministry added: “If anyone violates our sovereignty under any pretext and title, they will be responsible for the consequences.”

Continuation of humanitarian aid

Last week Japan announced to provide $10 million in humanitarian aid to Afghan farmers and European Union announced 98 tonnes of medical equipment aid to Afghanistan.
