BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A cultural festival has been launched in central Bamyan province to introduce ancient sites, encourage writers and support artists, an official said on Monday.

Information and Culture Department Director Safiullah Raed told Pajhwok Afghan News the Bamyan Cultural Festival was held in three sections — an essay writing seminar for ancient sites, a cultural fair and an exhibition of artworks to support artists, introduce tourist attractions and improve cultural activities at the province level.

He said in addition to reading poems and praising best article authors, more than a hundred artworks by 14 artists in the fields of painting, drawing, calligraphy and miniature were exhibited.

Mohammad Karimi, an educator, said holding such programs provided the basis for creation of more artworks, made young people interested in artistic activities and created unity and empathy between different social strata.

The artists while welcoming such programs, asked the authorities to pay more attention and support young artists.

“It is important to hold such exhibitions and programs to improve art and support artists”, Khairullah Nawrozi, an artist, said.

He asked related institutions and departments to pay attention to providing necessary facilities and ground for holding such exhibitions and programs at the national and international levels.
