JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Some youths in eastern Nangarhar province have launched an awareness campaign to discourage swimming in rivers and prevent drowning incidents.
This comes that the drowning incidents have recently increased in the province and a campaign was launched to spread awareness in this regard.
Khabib Ameeri, one of the campaign organisers, said: “Every day we hear that one person has drowned in the river or disappeared in the water for this reason we launched this campaign.”
He added: “A lot of people and young people were killed by this bloody river. Today, we raised slogans Javid Karimi, a campaign participant in Jalalabad city, said: “They also printed public awareness brochures distribute to the youths and posted them on walls and public places.”
Ameeri said: “We wrote these sentences on the brochures, don't swim in the river! There is danger. The heat won't kill us, but swimming in the river will kill us. For God's sake, have mercy on yourself and your family; don't swim in too much water of the river.”
Residents termed the campaign effective.
Rahmaullah, a resident of Jalalabad City, said every day they witnessed a drowning incident.
Drowning incidents have increased at times when the temperature in Nangarhar has surged and many people especially youth go swimming in rivers.
