KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation (MoRR) has voiced deep concern over the mistreatment of Afghan refugees in Iran, following the circulation of disturbing images on social media.
Recent footage shows an Afghan immigrant named Syed Mehdi Mousavi being tortured by Iranian agents, with scenes of him lying on the ground and an officer kneeling on his neck while women around him plead for his release.
In response to these disturbing reports, the MoRR has called on Iran to address these issues with patience and tolerance, as it has in the past.
The ministry condemned the use of excessive force and forced deportations, which they argue contravene Islamic, international, and neighborly principles. They have urged for incentive programs between the two nations to resolve these challenges and ensure dignified and voluntary returns for Afghan refugees.
The MoRR also emphasized that Afghan refugees residing in Iran should comply with local laws and regulations.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan seeks to maintain positive relations with its neighbors and address any issues that could harm these relationships or fuel misinformation.
Meanwhile, Ahmad Raza Radan, a senior Iranian security official, stated that illegal migrants are expected to leave Iran by the end of the year. He reiterated that the country's policies require all undocumented migrants to return to their countries of origin within this timeframe.
