KABUL (Pajhwok): British Charge d’Affaires Robert Chatterton Dickson says that London is committed to cooperating with the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to enhance international relations and address the challenges faced by Afghans.
In a meeting with Maulvi Zakir, head of the deputy prime minister’s office, on Thursday, Dickson expressed his efforts to restore and strengthen political ties between the IEA and the UK.
He emphasized the value of ongoing discussions with IEA officials, noting that such engagement could lead to solutions based on mutual respect.
Dickson praised the security situation in Afghanistan and the Islamic Emirate's efforts in combating drug trafficking.
He also highlighted London's commitment to fulfilling its obligations from the third Doha meeting and continuing technical and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, particularly in addressing climate change impacts.
He reiterated that the UK aims to support the IEA in expanding its global relations and resolving the issues faced by the Afghan people.
Maulvi Zakir welcomed Dickson and expressed gratitude for the UK's humanitarian aid to Afghanistan.
He stressed that fostering positive international relations and expanding cooperation with Britain are priorities for the IEA’s foreign policy.
He noted that both countries have significant opportunities to develop their relationship and should capitalize on them.
He also criticized the sanctions imposed on Afghanistan, stating that they inflict substantial harm on ordinary citizens.
Maulvi Zakir reaffirmed the IEA’s commitment to balanced foreign policy and its intention to maintain constructive political and economic relations with all parties on both regional and global levels.
