JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Commerce Department of eastern Nangarhar province and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce have formed a joint committee to address challenges being faced by traders in the province, with a particular focus on Torkham.
Officials announced this committee will work to resolve trade-related issues in Nangarhar, especially at the Torkham crossing.
The decision followed a meeting involving the deputy governor's delegation, the Commerce Department, local businessmen, and representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC).
The proposal was put forward by Mohammadullah Agha Bakhtiar, MoIC's director of transit affairs.
The committee is tasked with improving facilities for traders and drivers in Torkham and taking urgent steps to address existing problems.
Nangarhar's Deputy Governor Maulvi Sayed Ahmad Banuri, thanked the MoIC delegation and promised full cooperation with the committee.
Local businessmen view the establishment of this committee as a significant move toward resolving their concerns.
Zalmi Azimi, a member of the Nangarhar Chamber of Commerce, highlighted that hundreds of trucks were currently parked on both sides of Torkham.
He believes the committee's formation will help resolve these issues.
Three days ago, the Nangarhar Chamber of Commerce and Investment reported that thousands of trucks carrying food and non-food goods faced protracted delays in finalizing visas for drivers at Torkham.
