‘2,638 incidents of violence against women thwarted in a year’

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry for the promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (MPVPV) prevented 2,638 incidents of violence against women and thwarted 295 cases of women selling in the past year, an official said on Tuesday.

The Ministry also reformed the programmes and transmissions of 90 percent media outlets.

Addressing reporters here, Shaikh Mohammad Faqir Mohammadi, secretary policy and profession of the MPVPV, talked about the ministry’s past year’s performance.

He said: “Establishing virtues and prohibiting vices in civil and military bodies and public places, activating the toll-free number 191 for registering complaints, organizing programs to improve capacity and monitoring the fulfillment of decrees and orders are the main activities of this ministry during the past year.”

Shaikh Mohibullah Mukhles, the planning and legal activities head of the ministry, said in the past year 338 bad marriages, 295 incidents of women selling and 1,313 feuds have been thwarted.

He said: “In 789 cases women have gotten their hereditary rights, 2,638 incidents of violence against women thwarted and some unpleasant old cultures have been thwarted through 2,469 meetings.”

He said in the past year 25 alcohol selling points have been closed, 21,328 musical instruments have been destroyed and the used of 13,250 tablets have been sized.

Shaikh Muslim said: “Ninety percent of audio, visual and print media publications have been modified in order to reform the society, 30 thousand immoral films have been destroyed at the central and provincial levels, gambling houses have been blocked, and 448 charmers and 528 magicians have been arrested and referred to judicial authorities.”

He noted that with the activation of the toll-free number 191 in the last year, a total of 9,808 complaints were registered, of which 5,486 cases were addressed.

He said: “Virtue has been preached in 27,518 IEA and non-IEA offices, 419,369 mosques, 96,355 educational and educational places and health centers, 68,979 hotels and restaurants, 39,218 hair dresser shops and swimming clubs, 15,575 sports clubs, 500 sewing shops and other public places, in order to establish virtues and prevent vices, necessary measures It's done.”
