KABUL (Pajhwok): A committee has been formed by the government to speed up the issuance of computerised national identity cards (CNICs) and provide applicants with more facilities.
The Presidential Palace said in a statement the committee was created on the basis of an order from Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund.
The committee will try to accelerate the issuance of CNICs, regulate the procedure and provide applicants further necessary facilities.
The committee is headed by Mufti Sayed Ahmad Mustaqeem and includes representatives from relevant ministries.
The representatives are Maulvi Abdul Kareem Fatih, Mufti Noorullah Rabiah, Maulvi Abdul Ahad Tayeb.
Two officials of the National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) of Afghanistan would act as other members of the committee, the statement said.
The committee will work to reduce the rush of applicants at CNIC distribution centres and report its assessments and findings to the office of the prime minister.
The government of the IEA was committed to the provision of necessary facilities for the distribution of CNICs to its citizens, the statement added.
Earlier, the prime minister had ordered the formation of another committee to monitor the passport issuance process, which helped reduce crowding and led to the provision of more facilities.
