KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul Municipality has planned the reconstruction of Parks in Kabul City where only women would be allowed to visit and do sport, an official said on Saturday.
Mawlavi Ahmadullah Waseeq, head of the NOC and Sport, told reporters here that sports were vital for men, women, youth and elders.
People can move freely in their vicinities while showing compliance to Sharia law, he added.
He said: “According to the information we have received from the municipal department and related institutions, they are planning to renovate and build parks in various areas of Kabul city, they will be only for families and for women.”
Mawlavi Ahmadullah Waseeq said: “If action is taken in this area, exercise is necessary for everyone, at least walking, many people are suffering from diabetes and stress, and the doctors advise them to exercise. If these parks are built soon, In this section, women can also walk and exercise in peace with hijab.”
Referring to the ban on free fight sport in Afghanistan, he said because in these games there is a risk of death, eye gouging, nose breaking and other body parts being damaged and hitting on the face is forbidden in Islam, that is why this game was banned.
He said in the past one year, Afghan sportsmen participated in 98 competitions abroad, in which they won 22 gold, 30 silver and 40 bronze medals in different fields.
Atal Mashwani, spokesperson of the NOC, said 127 sports clubs and 437 trainers have got licenses in the past one year.
In addition 500 clubs in provinces and 1,250 trainers in provinces have been issued licenses.
Mashwani said last year 14 reconstruction projects in the capital and 25 in provinces have been executed.
He said there are 59 federations working with the National Olympic Committee, 52 of which are registered with the Sports Authority, and the rest are newly formed whose documents are in the process of being registered, and 28 of these federations are Olympic related and others are non-Olympic.
He said in the past year, 4000 occasional and supportive competitions have been held in various fields.
Mashwani said last year, 191 competitions of 35 different federations were monitored and also 250 sports clubs and gymnasiums were monitored in order to prevent denials.
He said next year, the National Olympic Committee plans to hold a selection competition for the national teams of most federations, and 27 gymnasiums in the provinces will be handed over to them.
According to the information of the NOC, in the past three years Afghan athletes have won 120 medals in Asian and international competitions.
