MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): More than 3,000 people suffering from cardiovascular disease have referred to the Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Zonal Hospital in Mazar-i-Sharif and hospitalized, hospital sources said on Sunday.
Abdul Wahid Yousufi, head of the Abu Ali Sina Balkhi Zonal Hospital Internal Diseases section head, said that during the last solar year, 2,458 persons hospitalized due to cardiovascular disease while in the current solar year the number of cardiovascular patients reached to 473 so far.
He did not talk about the surge and decline in the number and said besides public hospitals most people referred to private hospitals and this disease increased during the winter season.
He added that this disease is more common in men under the age of 60 and in women after the age of 60 due to high blood pressure, obesity, sugar and smoking.
At the same time, doctors recommend refraining from smoking, regular exercising, controlling blood fat and stress to prevent this disease.
Cardiovascular Specialist Walid Safi told Pajhwok Afghan News the number of death toll from cardiovascular was higher worldwide compared to any other disease.

Abdul Hakim, 60, a resident of Mazar-i-Sharif, said that he is hospitalized in the hospital for the past three days and was looked after very well.
He was happy about the services provided by the hospital staff and doctors and asked other people to implement the recommendations of doctors.
The Ministry of Public Health last year said that 21 percent of cardiovascular patients lost lives in Afghanistan and this percentage was higher compared to the death toll from any other disease.
